This was the very first costume
I made for my cousin, who is to be referred to
as DonRafael82 online. We searched through all
of HTK's art and were drawn to this character
because we felt that it could be pulled off well
with Don's body type. I always try to keep true
to the concept art, so I knew that I needed a
very tight shirt, probably made of spandex. However,
Otakon happens during a very hot season, so I
needed to make it as 'cool' as possible. In the
end I used two fabrics, spandex and mesh, to keep
his body cooler than the rest of him while not
compromising the look of the costume.
Normally I like to try and keep
character groupings together and choose the counterpart.
Unfortunately I had already set my heart on Joan.
Fortunately envirion chose to cosplay Sherazard
and CelestialMaiden wore my unfinished Beramode
costume.
Don will say that the worst part
of the costume was the wig, followed by the ear-rings,
and eventually the tight shirt bothered him.
All in all, I prefer making clothed
for him as opposed to myself, simply because clothes
for guys is a lot easier and less frustrating.
