Illustration - Self Portraits

You may be wondering why I have this section on my site; it seems so unlike all my other work. This section is mostly for all the aspiring artists out there. It shows you that all my art does not come purely from my imagination. I have spent countless hours drawing from reality in order to build a repertoire of images to use in my not-so-realistic illustrations. You need to understand that no matter how good you are, you will always learn more and improve by carefully studying reality. I have taken life drawing classes, drawing classes, classes about illusionist tricks the eyes play, and I'm still learning every time I draw from reference. So the next time you want to draw that anime character in a cool position, have someone model it for you and use them as a reference. You don't have to be exact, but at least you'll know where the joints should be and how the clothes will fall.

Graphite Studies

Below are a few studies I have done in order to better understand reality. All pieces were started and completed in 6 hours – yes, I spent 6 hours looking at how light shadowed little details or reflected off of surfaces. The closer and longer you look, the better you will become.
